Martin BARRE

Martin Barré, born in 1924 in Nantes, is a French painter. After studying at the Beaux-Arts of Nantes, he settled in Paris in 1948. He made his first abstract painting in 1954 and his first exhibition in 1955. At the same time, he started his own researches and get away from lyrical abstraction to offer a new « soft abstract painting ». He refuses to think that a painting could possibly represent something - an ideology, space between - but could be a reflexion on space in the painting. He is also represented in Paris by Galerie Nathalie Obadia. In 1979, he exhibits at the Museum of Modern Art of Paris. He received the Great Award of National Art. Martin Barré is a creative painter, in constant research of the line, the form, the color, in two dimensional context. He died in Paris in 1993.
